The song in my own words
What the title means to me
When I say “my favorite place,” I’m thinking of how it feels to be with someone you love. You can be anywhere and still feel at home because that person is there. That’s the feeling I wanted to put into a song.
I wrote it for my husband, and I kept coming back to our first day together. At the beginning, you’re still getting to know each other. I wanted the song to carry that feeling all the way into the years when you know each other well and you’re still glad you get to be together.
Why the video goes all the way to old age
In the video, you meet the couple when they’re young and see them grow into their eighties and beyond. By the time you see them older, you can still remember how they looked at the start. I think that’s why the ending gets to me. I’m seeing the same two people, only now I can feel how many years they’ve shared.
